Leadership Style with Example
Leadership is being a good leader and a leaders are made not born. Some people can have a desire and willpower to lead, and become an effective leader. Good leaders have been developed through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and experience. Leadership are to inspire workers into higher levels of teamwork, there are certain things they must be, to know, and, to do. These do not come naturally, but are acquired through continual work and study. People who enjoy the nature to lead would continually work and study to improve their leadership skills. Definition of Leadership Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organisation in a way that makes it more coherent. Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. Leaders may follow this process by applying their leadership knowledge and skills. This is called Process Leadership. Even traits that can influence our actions. This is called Trait Leadership, in this theory it is common to believe that leaders were born rather than made. The skills and knowledge processed by the leader can be influenced by his or hers attributes or traits, such as beliefs, values, ethics, and character. Knowledge and skills contribute directly to the process of leadership.
There are three leadership factors that is essential to Skills, knowledge, and attributes. There are many different situations. Sometime what gets done in one situation will not always work in another. We must use our judgment to decide the best course of action and the leadership style needed for each situation, i.e. if we are in a situation that needs to confront an employee for inappropriate behaviour, but if the confrontation is too late or too early, too harsh or too weak, then the results may prove ineffective. A situation normally has a greater effect on a leader's action than his or her traits. This is because while traits may have an impressive stability over a period of time, they have little consistency across situations. This is why many leadership will think the Process Theory of Leadership is a more accurate than the Trait Theory of Leadership. Various forces will affect these four factors. Examples of forces the relationship with seniors, the skill of the followers, the informal leaders within the organisation, and how this organisation is being organised.
Communication People will lead through two-way communication. Much of it is nonverbal. For instance, when “setting a example,” that communicates to people that are not ask them to perform anything that we would not be willing to do our self. What and how we communicate either builds or harms the relationship between us and the employees. Followers Different people require different styles of leadership. For example, a new colleague may requires more supervision than an experienced employee. A person who lacks motivation requires a different approach than one with a high degree of motivation. It is important to know the people we work with. The fundamental starting point is having a good understanding of human nature, such as needs, emotions, and motivation. Leader Leader must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they can do. Good leadership is when the followers, not the leader or someone else who determines if the leader is successful. It is important to gain trust, because lack confidence and not having trust in a leader, the listeners will become uninspired. To be successful it is important to convince the followers, not yourself or the superiors, that we are worthy of being followed.
LEADERSHIP STYLE Leadership style is the manner and approach of providing direction, implementing plans, and motivating people led a group of researchers to identify different styles of leadership. • Authoritarian • Participative • Delegate A good leaders will use all of the above three styles, with one of them normally dominant, but bad leaders tend to stick with one style. Telling someone to do something by ordering them I.e ( I want you both to....) This style is used when leaders tell their employees what they want done and how they want it accomplished, without getting the advice of their followers. Some of the appropriate conditions to use it is when you have all the information to solve the problem, and you don't have much time, and the employees are well motivated. Authoritarian Some people tend to think of this style as a force of shouting, using demeaning language, and leading by threats and abusing their power. This is not the authoritarian style, rather it is an abusive, unprofessional style called “bossing people around.” It has no place in a leader's performance. The authoritarian style should normally only be used on rare occasions. Learning to gain more commitment and motivation from employees, then we should use the participative style. Participation Asking team member to come and work together in a group in known to be participation style which involves the leader including one or more employees in the decision making process (determining what to do and how to do it). However, the leader will maintain the final decision making authority. Operating this style is not a sign of weakness, but instead it will lead to a sign of strength that employees will respect. This type of style is performed when organisation employer have part of the information, and employees have other parts, because sometime leader may not expected to know everything — this is why organisation would like to employ knowledgeable and skillful employees. Using this style is of mutual benefit — it allows them to become part of the team and allows company to make better decisions. Delegate Asking members to carry out a role or duties, is known to delegate style, the leader allows the employees to make the decisions. But, the leader is still responsible for the decisions that are made. This is used when employees are able to analyse the situation and determine what needs to be done and how to do it. Trusting and setting priorities and delegate certain tasks. It is not a style that put a blame on others when things go wrong, this is a style to be used when management has full trust and confidence in the people below them. Conclusion in managers expected to be leaders After defining the terms of leadership and leadership style and learning the concept of it. Manager could take the responsibilities of being a good manager, and sometime we may need to be a leader, but it all depends on how the leadership and leadership style is being delivered and what leader are trying to follow. In my view, to lead a group of employee through the participation style. It is important to involve manager with colleague and treat them equally and to value and respect the opinion in decision making etc. But also value in being a good leader and to inspire workers into higher levels of teamwork, there are certain things that we must be, to know, and, to do. Just being a good manager and knowing what to do and say, will not damage the relationship with employees and with the organisation. Although if a position as a manager, supervisor, etc. and having the authority to accomplish certain tasks and objectives in the organisation (known as Assigned Leadership), this power may not make anyone a leader, it would simply makes them the boss. Leadership differs in that it makes the followers want to achieve high goals, rather than simply bossing people around Though they could get Assigned Leadership by their position and by their display Emergent Leadership by influencing people to do great things. But it does not mean all manager would have the same style of concept, if they decide to use a wrong approach to being a leader, it could result complication between organisation and managers and employee. And by analyzing the above style we can demonstrate what type of complication it could lead to if we did not follow the right way of being or becoming a leader and overtaking the leadership style. But for many organisation there will always be someone who needs to take leadership and have a leadership style for the running of a success-full business.
